That a personal calamity can become a family business and a well-known brand, Saladin Pašalić did not even dream of when he created the Dr. Pasha soap.

A graphic designer by trade, he thought of the idea almost by accident. Nine years ago, due to the use of various showering cremes Pašalić developed skin problems. On one occasion he was given an organic, natural soap from abroad, after which he noticed that the skin calmed down. He asked around a little bit, and found out that it is manly family business that are making this kind of soap throughout Europe, especially in Greece, France, Italy ... He thought to himself, why not trying to do the same.

He proposed this to his wife Aida, a mechanical engineer by profession and his brother Amer (doctor), to go ahead and try to make themselves such soap. They started in their rented apartment. The business was on track.

"Development was funny, interesting ...", says Pašalić. The business, that came a long way from a cooking pot to an elaborate firm, helped Saladin's sister a chemist, Aida’s sister-in-law a pharmacist, his knowledge of design, packaging and, above all – the persistence and desire to create something new, natural, with healing properties, something that they could start a business with.

From soap to apartment

The family tried the first samples, some friends and all were more than satisfied, making Pašalić often joke about buying his apartment with soap. Several years later, after excellent performance at the ZEPS fair, the dream began to materialize, and the soap started to sell.

Since they had no money for mass advertising, they used outdated marketing "by word of mouth" which worked. Dr. Pasha becomes a brand. Its 100 percent natural properties were recognized even by the highly selective world markets, and the Pašalić family could finally buy their apartment thanks to the soap.

This modest man says that his life at this point, has no room for illusion. He has never lived by high standards and was always happy with little things, so that most of his illusions and youth dreams came true.

"I try to live by the rules that are given by the Almighty Creator and not surrender to the materialistic way of thinking. Today, it is difficult because we are surrounded by material things. The man is forgotten , like some long lost ingredient. In the constant race, the life has become tasteless, people have forgotten about people “, explains Pašalić, noting that his employees are not just numbers – “ for me, they are human beings with whom I try to share the common gain. This way of thinking makes me and my family happier, and I hope to stay on this track.

Family treasure

For the past few years, our interlocutor has been thinking about a final stage of his life. "I think to escape the materialistic life, the relentless machine, go into the nature and begin to live by the slower pace of life ", although he is satisfied how his life has turned out with a wonderful family, two sons, a wife with whom he lives in happiness and love.

Despite the fact of a small factory becoming the "family treasure" and has taken on another dimension, he remained modest and did not even mention during the conversation that he is a top professional photographer, expert for packaging, expert in computers and new technology, an Internet-club owner in the center Zenica, author of hundreds of posters, packaging wraps that you might use without even knowing that he created them.

"As a designer, I have been working for 20 years. It is a creative job for which you need to be talented. I enjoy it as much as I enjoy architecture, especially the arrangement of space, creating furniture ... I try to share a sense of aesthetics with my friends, "he says, noting that now he does not have time like he use to, as the soap is playing a huge part in his life at this point.

Weak points?

For most people I try to look tough, elusive, however, this is my outer mask which I carry with me to protect the internal weakness. In general I have a soft spot for people, the interaction changes me. My positive-weak point is that I always apologize, even when I am right to calm myself and as long as I am capable of emotion, it means that there is some good left in me.

Best movie?

The film trilogy "Red", "blue", "white" - the interesting Polish films that made me go back to thinking that every man is made of odor, voice and touch as a complex human being with an intricate story of the past, present and future. Such films always give me energy and voice a message that even the perfect strangers have their own complex background.

Best book?

I am a reader. I like to read almost everything from historic novels to books with a moral. However, what I find to be the most interesting, as a man who obeys the God’s laws, are questions about our existence, our identity and the destination we are heading to. Simply, this is a type of a philosophy that works for me.
