As of December 4, when the fully established system of vehicle approval sets in, Bosnian borders will not be crossed any more by vehicles whose quality is not in compliance with EU standards, confirmed to eKapija.ba Drago Talijan, heading EIB International – The Center for motor vehicles of Banja Luka.

He explains that the system of vehicle approval is really a verification process that establishes compliance of new and used vehicles with EU regulations, giving certifications of conformity or the safety card for all vehicles that are labeled as ‘safe’.

“In practice, this means that our country cannot enter vehicles with a steering wheel on the right, or air conditions placed differently, or a different color that the required ones. Vehicle approval will develop in two stages - for the types of vehicles and for each vehicle individually”, explains Talijan.

Upon arrival to the boarder, a vehicle will register and then undergo a safety approval and technical inspection.

Every vehicle importer will have a certificate with his name on, so once the procedure has been completed for one set of vehicles, it will not be repeated for the same ones again. A ban on import of old vehicles is expected after the process of vehicle approval is implemented and functioning.

Authority conducting the approval will be a Consortium, led by EIB International – The center for motor vehicles of Banja Luka, The Institution for Economic Engineering Zenica, The Institution for Traffic and Communications Sarajevo and “ Centar Motor” Siroki Brijeg. Those, will conduct certification of vehicles together with “Automotive Centar” – The Sarajevo Center for vehicles.
