Shady land deal in Istria

|
Part of the investigation into Hypo Bank is focused on buying land in Croatia for incredibly low prices, reported agencies.
As reported by Croatian media, an Austrian buyer, representative of an Austrian bank was allowed by a Croatian close to the SDP political party, to purchase land and change it into construction area.
"The area covers 347,000 SM of undisturbed, beautiful coastline in Vodnjan, which was bought for 5.12 EUR per square meter for the company "Darja" and another 751,000 SM of 7.35 EUR per square meter for the company "AB Maris". Soon after that, the mentioned land was granted a building permit, which has increased the price of a SM by hundreds times more. Both of the companies are a 50 percent ownership of the Hypo Bank, " reports local media.
Similar manipulations are occurring in Serbia, where a suspicious housing complex in New Belgrade, increased its prices from 150 to 230 million EUR.
The Austrian "Standard" reports about the investigation against former Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, explaining that during the mediation for a loan with Hypo Bank he received 409,000 EUR.
After the former head of Hypo Alpe Adria Bank Wolfgang Kulterer, during
the arrest last week had on him 130,000 EUR, the local media assumed he
was planning to leave the country for Timisoara in Romania, where he had founded a
company.
