Technology Park in Mostar, the future synergy of ideas, knowledge and new technology, should start working at full capacity early next year. The project, whose implementation was announced two years ago, so far has been kept on standby, primarily due to the economic crisis sweeping over our country, confirmed Mladen Kostic, Director of the Technology Park in Mostar.

It was also pointed out that construction works are coming to the end at Bišće Polje, in Mostar, a location of the park.

"The initiative for the establishment came from the entrepreneurial sector, but this project has not received adequate support from national institutions. Yet, thanks to the goodwill of individuals it continues. We hope the center to be ready for work, starting early next year with the operational department, ie research and training operations which will be closely linked to technological fields, "says Kostic.

The Technological Park is envisaged as a place of professional business planning, marketing and access to sources of capital. Kostic says that above everything else, they intend to promote innovation, and then find ways to make new ideas happen.

That the Park is of great interest to the country, confirmed the agency REDAH in the comprehensive study on development of business zones in Herzegovina, which states that the primary goal of creating a technology park is to increase the number of small and medium enterprises.

According to their assessment, launching a project such as the TP in Mostar, could be , in a situation where young people are leaving the country searching for a better tomorrow, a "light at the end of the tunnel."

Initiators of the Technology Park in Mostar are the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, University of Mostar, Alpha Therm, University Dzemal Bijedic in Mostar, Technology Park Varazdin, REDAH Regional Development Agency, Federal Chamber of Commerce, Association of Herzegovina’s patent Herpatent and Herzegovina Computer Information Society.

Their initial idea was to create for themselves and others better business conditions and a ensure safer future. The idea is not new, just a good model of success that has long been applied across the most developed European countries.

"The TP is to become a center of excellence, and a place of technology and knowledge transfer, where young people can create and realize their ideas by themselves or with the help of technological and scientific experts and higher educational institutions. A Technology Park should be a place where Herzegovina`s comparative advantage can be best put to use, " REDAH study writes.

The TP in Mostar is recognized by the international community as well as the local one, so that in 2010 the Center got a significant boost through the IPA project "Development of Innovation Centers in Zenica, Mostar and Banja Luka," as proposed by the Ministry of Civil Affairs and adopted by the EC delegation in Brussels.
