September 2, 2010 - Prijedor Municipality has ended this year’s season with positive results. Tourists from all around the world have turned to cheaper destinations, as proved by large tourist inbound visits of Prijedor and its surroundings.

Tourist Board of Prijedor has decided to keep up the high score, and enlarge its tourist offer. Within the project “Marketing material”, three new publications came out presenting Prijedor in its natural glory and splendor.

Amira Ganic Executive Director at the Tourist Board of Prijedor, confirmed that indeed three publications saw the light of day – “Prijedor’s Tourist Guide”, “Tourist Map of Prijedor” and “Artifacts and Souvenirs”.

“Tourist guide is 40 pages long, with all the information necessary about city’s history, natural sites, accommodation, tourist sites, culture, sports and other things worth knowing about the municipality”, says Ganic. Tourist map of Prijedor has existed for years, only that this time it is updated with new information.

The next step is to make a cookbook, with gastronomy and interesting local dishes.

Ganic points out that interesting sites are the National Park Kozara, Sana River and Sanicani Fishpond. “Fishpond Sanicani has a long tradition, over 100 years old, as being one of the favorite spots of local fishermen, nature enthusiasts and hunters. Other then the fresh fish that you can buy there, it is also known for its hunting activities due to the large number of wild ducks”, she says.

As for other locations, central part of Kozara is declared a National Park in 1967, especially known for its beautiful mountain tops and the panoramic view of Bosanska Gradiska, Prijedor, Dubica and other areas.

The Sana River, together with Una and Neretva is considered to be one of the cleanest and most beautiful Bosnian rivers. There is a legend attached to it about Roman legionaries healing wounds after battles with water from Sana, so that the name draws on the word ‘sanus’ meaning health.

For the most part, Sana River is a peaceful place, a water resort that everybody can take a swim in. Prijedor is known for its bathing sites, so that every year, a large number of tourists come just to take a swim in one of the local water resorts.
